Where do the dead belong in the world of the living? For
this newest Spawn, moments of peace never come.
Winter. Memories of his life as Al Simmons continue to haunt Spawn as more and
more realizations about who he was and what he did come into view. Of the most
painful is the realization that Al Simmons was murdered and burned by his
partner, a fellow mercenary known as Chapel. This realization is one that Clown
takes great joy in as he persists in taunting, haunting and tormenting the
anguished Hellspawn, trying to push him over the edge.
Meanwhile, Jason Wynn continues his climb for more and more power as he sells
his illegal arms to both sides of civil wars, and plots his next sinister move.
Among his many concerns are the stolen weapons that were taken by Spawn. The
weapons are a loose end that are traceable to Wynn, an oversight he cannot
afford to let slip through the cracks. To insure the guns safe return, Chapel
is sent to track down the thief, return the arsenal and kill the perpetrator.
Rat City. Gunfire sprays the narrow, trash-filled corridor. Chapel has arrived
eager to spill a little blood. After rousting a few of the homeless, Chapel
discovers that he is looking for a guy named Al, not suspecting that the one he
seeks is not only his dead partner, but also a Hellspawn.
Wary of his boss, Terry Fitzgerald has begun his own investigation of missing,
and stolen arms. Unfortunately for Terry, Wynn discovers what he is up to.
Wanda has become troubled as she worries about Terry and wonders where the ring
Cyan found came from. The ring she gave to Al, her dead husband.
Back in the alley Spawn has revealed himself to Chapel. Still not suspecting
who Spawn really is, Chapel attempts to play tough with the costumed hero, and
spits in his face. Bad move. Spawn moves in on the mercenary and all at once it
starts to come back. Spawn remembers Chapel. He torments Chapel and in the end
reveals that he is Al Simmons, the man that Chapel murdered. Chapel can't take
the shock of this revelation, and his mind snaps like a twig. But before his
former partner descends into madness, Spawn discovers that it was Jason Wynn
who ordered Al Simmons death.
