SWOLLEN MEMBERS: BREATH
MUSIC VIDEO

The Swollen Members "Breath" video was shot in December '02 in Canada in just 16 hours. Directed by Todd McFarlane and produced by Terry Fitzgerald, this was TME's first go at directing and producing a non-animated piece.

"Breath" is the latest single from the Swollen Members' album Monsters in the Closet and features Nelly Furtado.

The video debuted on Canadian music channel MuchMusic on January 14th and on MTV Canada the next day. It was very well received and gradually moved to the top of the charts, remaining in the top 10 after five months.

Currently, the video is nominated for three MuchMusic Video Awards and the band is nominated for the Favorite Canadian group award. For more information about nominees, check out MuchMusic's site for all the details.

The video had a budget of only $130,000 (Cdn) but turned out to be more help than hindrance -- especially in the creative process. The limited budget gave Todd more freedom. "Some of the big videos, when they spend a lot of money, you can have someone honking at every move, making sure you're spending it right," Todd explained. "If you don't have much time or money, everybody's expectations are a little bit lower and they just go, 'Do whatever you want.'"

Even though the "Breath" video doesn't feature McFarlane's trademark animation, Todd believes that fans of his comic book creations and action figures will see a style that is distinctly his.
