Well i’ev been checking spawn endgame to see where to comment on this issue and if this isn’t it and there is a place i haven’t found it.

Well i’ll do it like this, i’ll list the cons then the pros (bad news first) the give it a number rating.

Cons- The opening dialoge by the clown (ahem*coff*ahem..Violator) was a bit tacky. It lacked personality, felt forced (would have worked better with thought bubbles) and reminded me of old OLD throw back style of writing used by marvel. Also the last page. Felt very Jack Kirby, and really Jack Kirby might be the king but that style of his doens’t work anymore. When i say jack kirby i’m refering to the over dramatic pose and cornball dialoge (its kids stuff). I can just imagine that guy standing there cackling and rubbing his hands together, like Dr.Evil or something, so i got to ask where’s Mini Me at? Basically i just felt the guy should be more bleak and serious to match the tone of the book and appear more like a professional. He’s already come across as a joke in terms of personality, feels like a character used to just push the story forward rather than a character i should give any real thought to ever. I think a personality like the Terminators would have worked better. Also i’m still feeling as though parts of the story should have moved forward a lot faster and those splash pages should be kept to a bare minimum. Alas i’ll come to the art, first i should say i don’t feel the art is nearly as important as the story especially these days for me and also since its an older crowd buying comics because the prices have rose so high. Now the art didn’t have the same quality through out, for instints the gun in the mans hand who blew his brains out changes sized, its lafger in the splash page then in a later panel on the next page.

Pros-First i should say with this issue i’m feeling a bit more confident that spawn might be able to picked itself up off its ass with this new direction. The mood right now reminds me of Hellblazer and with quality characters this comic could be better than its ever been. The dialoge between the new spawn and his nurse felt very organic. To me the best part of this issue. Also the scene with the two men in the diner worked naturally. Each having a distinct personality and feel to them. When the angel shows up you give the time. This could become very important and if it is codos for using real life elements in the story. Also the story felt much heavier, more writing so thats a HUGE plus over last issue. I felt the art was overall pretty good and i like the muted colors. The colors make the drawing stand out a bit more.

    Score
    Story 7/10
good but lots of room for improvement and i still only have a slight clue as to whats going on now

    dialoge 8/10
some parts where a 10 others a 3-5/10 but for the most part i’d say the dialoge was in the 9/10 score but those scenes less so have weight too.

    Pencils 8/10
far better than whats going on in Marvels Skrull invasion but not nearly as good as what Leinil Yu has done in say the New Avengers or Ultimate Wolverine Hulk. Great art not the best though. the paneling could be better too. For the record Watchmen and The Killing Joke have some of the best paneling and art i’ev ever seen, in my opinion. I say that so you can get and idea what i like so you know where i’m coming from.

    Colors 9/10
Anyone can make good colors just about these days so being unique is about as good as your going to get and this book feels unique

    PS
I’d say i started collecting comics about three to four years ago. I really hope spawn makes a comeback i used to be a big fan boy of spawn and spawn is what got me into comics. The first comic i decided to get was spawn. Spiderman was a close second for me as for what i wanted to get into intially with comics and no lie, i didnt even know who McFarlane was but it was his spiderman stuff i wanted. It was the art that attracted me to spiderman and spawns (capullo days) art and story that eventually made me decide to spend my money on spawn first. McFarlanes Spiderman stuff was so expensive to me then, but i’ev got them all now but the amazing spiderman one where its venoms face on the cover. I also have most of Peter Davids run on the hulk, although it wasn’t at all to do with McFarlanes art but it is a big plus in the scheme of things. So if i come across as being negative or harsh its just i want to nick pick the flaws (which theere are many) so this book can be the best it can be. When i became a comic fan spawn was already out the door persay i’d love it if started booming in popularity again and i could geek out a little over it with out the eye rolls. Best wishes. Also i’d like to send you some fan art, i can draw pretty well, i think you’d be surprised by what you get. So could you please give me a mailing adress to send fan art, the picture i’d draw (i haven’t made any plans specific) will be on bristol board and will be 18 by 24.

no matter what it is said… this new direction is AWESOME!!!

    LONG LIVE McFARLANE!!!

what i truly like is that no matter what the outcome Todd has accepted sales were no what they used to… so he needed to shake things… but unlike with the heroes at DC or MARVEL who usually are just taken from bad to worse with no sense at all… SPAWN is taking things to the next level… but it is no syupid reboot or gimmick… it is like life… a chapter ends, a new one begins… not better or worse… just a different one…

TWO THUMBS WAY UP AT EVERYONE INVOLVED WITH SPAWN!!!
