SC: Specific to Series 22, where did the initial concept for the line come from?

JSJ: Initially, we thought about taking characters from the Dark Ages comic, but Todd wanted the Dark Ages toy line to continue to have its own identity apart from the book. This is when Ed decided to interpret the line as Vikings.

SC: Along those lines, how did the concept change from its infant stages to the final versions we'll see on store shelves?

JSJ: As Ed began going over the initial designs with the sculpting department, I suggested we take the Viking warrior idea further toward a dark fantasy feel. Each character could represent an Eldar race, hence Berserker the troll, Dark Raider the elf, Blue Tooth the dwarf, Valkerie the angel, Spawn the Bloodaxe, (the hero) and Skullsplitter the demonic tyrant.

SC: What specific reference did you and the rest of the team use in creating the Series 22 figures?

JSJ: We wanted to create mostly authentic Nordic costumes and armor, so we looked at historical reference to create the characters' individual looks.
