CLANDESTINE TOY FACTS REVEALED
Sometimes There are Secrets Beneath the Mask

Even though the sculptors at McFarlane Toys have been working 26 hours a day to get our entire range of Shrek products in stores on time, they still set aside some time for a few inside jokes and variants in the figures lines. Here are a couple:

LORD FARQUAAD MASCOT AND ANDREW ADAMSON

KNIGHT AND TODD THE ARTIST

SHREK

    • Lord Farquaad Mascot from the 6-inch line has Shrek film director Andrew Adamson's face under the huge Farquaad mask.

    • The knight in the Wrestlin Shrek playset has a variant featuring Todd McFarlane's face under the mask.

    • In the 6-inch series, there are two different standard Shrek figures: One has an open mouth and one is smirking. They are entirely different head sculpts.

    • Along those lines, the open-mouthed 6-inch Shrek has had some dental work. The first couple weeks of production featured teeth that were painted white with no separation, as if Shrek had been to the dentist. The paint was tweaked to make the teeth slightly dingier with more separation.

    • The 6-inch Princess Fiona has two sets of accessories. One comes with rocks with eggs frying on them, a handkerchief, stick, leaf and a skewer with a rat on it. The other Fiona comes with the bird, a nest, a tree stump and a big branch. Both figures are exactly the same, only the accessories are different.

    • The 6-inch Fiona also had a countersunken head in first couple weeks. A running change extended her neck making it longer and more elegant.

In previously released figures:

    • The face of the Goddess from the Manga Spawn series was modeled on an employee at McFarlane Toys in New Jersey.

    • The torso on the Al Simmons base from Series 17 is sculptor Kyle.

    • The severed head with the original Marv action figure is Geoff Darrow, comic book artist and a close friend of Frank Miller.

    • Death Row Marv's voice is Steve "the Victim" Hamady.
