STAFFERS HOME, ALIVE, FROM COMIC CONVENTION
Yearly San Diego Event was Huge and Successful

Though it was occasionally in doubt, the spawn.com staffers all returned in reasonably good condition from their annual trek to Comic-Con International in San Diego.

This year’s event ran from July 17-20 with Preview Night on July 16 at the San Diego Convention Center. Spawn.com was set up in booth 1913, a prime spot near the middle-front of the massive, packed showcase area. This year, we offered a Spawn/Miracleman two-pack as a Con exclusive, limited to 5,000 pieces.

Over the years, San Diego has grown from a comic book convention to a mecca of all things pop culture. This year, it was even bigger. Entering the main floor, it’s hard not to be stunned by the bells and whistles, the eye-candy and flashing lights, the scantily clad of both sexes and, well, the Stormtroopers and Klingons (of which there sadly seems to be fewer and fewer each year).

As usual, we displayed nearly two dozen two-up prototypes of current and upcoming action figures, notably T3, Spawn Series 24 and Twisted Land of Oz. Thousands of fans came through the booth over the course of the week and we took as much time as we could to answer questions and put faces to names. Ed Frank, our head guy from the New Jersey Design Group, and Jay Fotos, colorist for Sam and Twitch, were there to look over portfolios. We had a dinner with spawn.com message board members Friday night and took part in several panels (Plastically Incorrect, How to Sculpt a McFarlane Toy and a McFarlane companies overview), all of which were well-attended and fun.

We did hold back a small number of the Spawn/Miracleman two-pack exclusives, which we’ll be selling through the online Store/Collector’s Club in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for that and see you next year in San Diego.
