When the NBA and Stanley Cup Finals both finish up, America's pastime takes center stage and Major League Baseball takes over the major sports landscape every July. This summer, McFarlane Toys presents MLB 16, the latest Sports Picks series to showcase the very best players. The new series offers five players making their Sports Picks debuts, and one longtime veteran showing off his new look. It's been a few months since we announced the MLB 16 lineup -- now you get to enjoy the photography. Cameraman, ZOOM IT!

CRAIG BIGGIO: Alex Trevino and Alan Ashby split the catching duties for the 1988 Houston Astros, but rookie Craig Biggio managed to snare enough at-bats to turn some heads. Eighteen seasons later, the 40-year-old mainstay enters Spring Training as Houston's starting second baseman. The seven-time All-Star spent four years behind the plate in Houston, before shifting to second base for 11 seasons (where he won four Gold Glove awards), then to center field for two seasons before returning to second base in 2005. Biggio remains a Houston fixture, and a key component to their quest to return to the World Series.

MANNY RAMIREZ 2: Things have changed a bit since our first Manny Ramirez figure hit shelves in 2002. The dreads are longer, the uniform a little baggier, but the ominous swing remains. Boston's left fielder continues to be one of baseball's most feared hitters, and enters a new season ready to send American League ERAs back into orbit. He's got his quirks, but as long as "Manny being Manny" includes the typical damage inflicted at the plate, he'll always have a home with the Red Sox.

SCOTT PODSEDNIK: Seattle couldn't find a spot for him, and Milwaukee decided to replace him -- but Scott Podsednik proved invaluable in Chicago -- as his tenacious hitting and furious base running helped build the blueprint that the White Sox turned into the 2005 World Champions. Chicago's left fielder missed 33 games in 2005, but still remained one of only four players to steal more than 50 bases. While his game is speed, "Pods" showed timely power -- crashing two homers in the postseason to help the White Sox win it all.

GARY SHEFFIELD: Sheffield has played for Milwaukee, San Diego, Florida, Los Angeles and Atlanta, but it wasn't until he signed a free agent deal with the Yankees that he truly found a home. He filled a right field hole left by the retirement of Yankee legend Paul O'Neill, and immediately became the favorite son of the "Bleacher Creatures" that dwell beyond the fence. Sheffield has earned an All-Star slot in each of his seasons as a Yankee, but his ultimate championship goal has eluded him thus far. With a loaded lineup, 2006 could be the year Sheffield and the Yankees return to the Promised Land.

VICTOR MARTINEZ: The Indians' field general commands an enormous amount of respect for a 26-year-old. His effusive personality and rugged playing style have made him a popular player and teammate in Cleveland. The Indians' young squad turned on the jets in the second half last season, nearly securing a playoff berth before fading in the final week of the season. Cleveland should be back in the hunt in 2006, with Victor Martinez helping lead the charge. The Martinez figure is the first-ever regular series figure for the Cleveland Indians.

JAKE PEAVY: From inauspicious beginnings (a 15th round selection in 1999), Peavy shot through San Diego's minor league system, making his Major League debut as a 21-year-old in 2002. He was on his way to a likely Cy Young Award in 2004, before an injury cost him the end of the season. After leading San Diego to the N.L. West title and earning his first All-Star berth in 2005, the Padres' ace is prepared to deliver once again in the 2006 season.

MLB 16 is scheduled to arrive in stores in early July. As always, lineups could change pending licensor approval.
