STEELERS & BEARS SHOWCASED IN NEW NFL 2-PACKS
“Defensive Legacy” sets pair legends with their modern counterparts

No NFL teams boast prouder defensive traditions than the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Chicago Bears, and later this summer McFarlane Toys pays tribute to both teams’ legacy of domination with two-packs honoring top defensive players from their present and past. Chicago linebacking legends Dick Butkus and Brian Urlacher team up for Chicago, while Pittsburgh’s “Steel Curtain” is held up by “Mean” Joe Greene and James Harrison.

The only way Dick Butkus could be more Chicago is if he got an Air Jordan tattoo. Butkus was born in Chicago, played collegiately for Illinois, and then became the Bears’ first-round draft pick in 1965. He played nine seasons in Chicago, earning Pro Bowl berths his first eight years before calling it a career in 1973. Brian Urlacher made the transition from the starting safety at the University of New Mexico to middle linebacker for the Chicago Bears. Few players can successfully transition that sort of “double jump” to a more demanding position in a higher league, but Urlacher made it look easy. He earned Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2000, and then became the Defensive Player of the Year in 2005.

“Mean” Joe Greene arrived in Pittsburgh in 1969 as the team’s 1st round draft pick. He joined Andy Russell as one of the few bright spots on a team that went 1-13, but Greene’s arrived as the cornerstone to one of the NFL’s greatest dynasties. Over the next decade, the Steelers would go 99-44-1 and win four Super Bowls. Today, linebacker James Harrison sets the tone for the Steelers defense much like “Mean” Joe did back in the ‘70s. The 2008 Defensive Player of the Year does it all – pressuring quarterbacks, chasing down running backs, and breaking wide receivers. Harrison remains the relentless spine of the Steeler defense – the kind of player that makes opponents run sweeps the OTHER direction.

The Bears and Steelers 2-packs are scheduled to arrive in stores early this July. If you run into them while you’re out shopping, our best advice is to put them in your cart right away before they tackle you and make you fumble.
