Windows on Broadway Shop Has Baseball Theme
Tuesday, October 08, 2002

Major League Baseball Properties and Toys "R" Us Times Square have partnered - along with McFarlane Toys -- to turn the store's Windows on Broadway feature shop into an exciting, interactive and product-filled Major League Baseball shop to coincide with the 2002 post-season. The special MLB-themed shop in the Toys "R" Us international flagship store is currently open and will remain in place throughout the month of October.

The shop features a large selection of MLBP licensed products, not the least of which is a window display of two-up scale prototypes of McFarlane Toys' Roberto Alomar, Roger Clemens, Jason Giambi and Mike Piazza action figures. The store brought in additional McFarlane's Sports Picks: MLB action figures (all three series) for sale during the event.

A variety of Major League Baseball events will take place in October, including interactive games and competitions, player appearances and autograph signings.

"We are very excited about this retail partnership with Toys "R" Us Times Square," said Howard Smith, senior vice president of Licensing for Major League Baseball Properties. "October is the time when the spotlight focuses on the road to the World Series Championship and the Windows on Broadway shop is another great stage for Major League Baseball during this all-important month."

Along with the large selection of Major League Baseball products in the shop, Toys R' Us Times Square will host a MLB player appearance with former Yankees first baseman Don Mattingly on Oct. 17.

The "Windows on Broadway" MLB Shop will be supported with advertising in a special arrangement with the New York Daily News. There will be exclusive advertising for the "Windows on Broadway" Major League Baseball Shop in the paper, and the Daily News will run a reader sweepstakes with two season tickets for the New York Yankees 2003 season as the grand prize. Also as part of the sweepstakes, official Major League Baseball merchandise will be given as prizes to the grand-prize winner, 100 first prize and 200 second-prize winners.
