Longtime Collector Discovers Rare Figure in Ohio
Friday, October 18, 2002

When Todd visited our Hong Kong production facilities earlier this year, he happened upon a mid-reproduction run of AC/DC's Angus Young action figures. So he grabbed a couple pens and signed several of the insert cards that go inside the clamshell packaging. He signed a total of 17 cards, which were then cased and sent off to U.S. and international retailers. (For the entire original story, click here.)

Edward Smith of Elyria, Ohio, found the first known signed Angus figure on Oct. 4 at a Spencer Gifts store. The insert card is signed Todd McFarlane 1 of 1 in black Sharpie.

Ed had read the initial news story on about the signed figures, so he knew they were out there. He was just stunned to actually find one.

"At first when I picked it up I thought 'this is not what I think it is'," Ed said. "I used my finger to rub across the signature to see if it was on the outside of the package (to see if this was someone's idea of a joke) and it wasn't, it was on the inside card. I was in shock, I was thinking, 'what are the odds of finding this figure?'"

Pretty slim odds, Ed, pretty slim.

Ed has been collecting for about seven years now and has 22 figures. It's obvious what his favorite figure is now; before Angus it was The Crow figure from Movie Maniacs.

Congratulations on such a rare find, Ed, and your promised package of goodies is on its way.
