McFARLANE TOYS STORE GRAND-OPENING RECAP
Tempe Event Draws Huge Crowd of Spawn Fans
Friday, October 22, 2004

Tempe, AZ, played host to an incredible gathering of Spawn fans on Saturday, Oct. 16 for the special grand-opening event of the McFarlane Toys Showroom/Store.

Thousands -- and we mean thousands -- of fans showed up to join in the fun. Several events were ongoing concurrently throughout the day. The first was the actual opening of the Spawn Showroom itself. Inside, fans had the opportunity to view custom-built sets showcasing prototypes of our upcoming action figure lines, including Spawn, sports, monsters, music and film figures, and more. The showroom walls were decorated with a wide array of memorabilia including many items straight from Todd McFarlane's personal collection.

We also had an outdoor retail operation, selling dozens of various items from our warehouse at special event prices. The line was fairly long, but hundreds of fans were able to score older figures at good prices to fill holes in their collections.

The highlight of the day, though, was the signing, featuring Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, Spawn artist Greg Capullo and toy designer Ed Frank. Fans began lining up the night before for the signing that was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

It was the first time all three had signed together and the line was upwards of five hours long at its height. Todd, Greg and Ed were gracious and took time to greet and speak with every fan that came through the line, signing comics, toys, the special-edition signing plates and everything else you could imagine ... yes, including body parts.

The weather was typical Arizona October: sunny and warm. The ZONE local FM radio was on-hand doing a live broadcast, and there were several food and drink vendors to keep folks fed and hydrated.

There were a bunch of spawn.com staffers at the event to talk to fans, answer questions and hand out the new Spawn stickers.

All in all, it was an amazing event and a precursor of things to come at the Showroom. We want to sincerely thank everyone who came out and helped us celebrate this event. Hope you all had fun.

Weren't able to make it? We can't re-create the excitement for you, but we do have some extra event signing plates -- signed by Todd McFarlane, Greg Capullo and Ed Frank, natch -- to give away. Head on over to the contest section of spawn.com to enter.
