Todd Hits the Las Vegas Strip to Support Halo 3 Controller Launch
Friday, September 21, 2007

The hottest ticket on the strip last week wasn't just for the MTV Video Music Awards. GameStop presented an exclusive invitation-only show for its managers nationwide - and was there too.

Celebrities Clive Barker, Slash, Halo 3's Master Chief, Jackass cast members and Todd McFarlane joined all the major gaming companies, including Microsoft, to preview the hottest soon-to-be released video game properties.

The event kicked off with more than 5,000 managers making a mad dash into the event hall. Hundreds raced to secure a place in Todd's signing line. Within minutes, a line as long as a football field had formed for Todd's autograph, and it stayed that way for the next four hours. Todd signed the McFarlane-designed Halo 3-themed wireless controllers, given to the managers courtesy of Xbox (how lucky can you get?); many also brought comics and toys from their personal collections.

GameStop managers were some of the first lucky fans to play Halo 3 in the sessions presented by Microsoft and Bungie. Microsoft also featured other new titles at the event, including Project Gotham Racing 4, Viva PiƱata Party Animals, and Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom for the Xbox 360, and games for Windows, including Age of Empires: The Asian Dynasties Expansion Pack, Zoo Tycoon 2: Extinct Animals Expansion Pack, and Flight Simulator X: Acceleration Expansion Pack.

Todd upped the ante for the managers by rolling out McFarlane Toys' Halo 3 prototypes for a "first look." With the exception of Cortana (look for her big debut later this month on Spike TV) all the Halo 3 Series 1 figures and mini-vehicles were on display during the show.

Bungie and Microsoft are gambling on Halo 3 being a major attraction on the strip. Madame Tussauds International Wax Museum in Las Vegas honored Halo by immortalizing Master Chief - the first video game character to be enshrined in the world-famous attraction's 250-year history.

The figure was created at the Madame Tussauds Studios in London specifically for the Las Vegas attraction. Master Chief stands an impressive 7 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing approximately 275 lbs.

As you can see, Todd couldn't pass up the opportunity to get his photo with the big guy.
