NO LIFE 'TIL ... PLASTIC

Metallica Figures Available in Two Forms

August 24, 2001

In what ranks as one of McFarlane Toys' most ambitious music-related action figure projects ever, Metallica is getting ready to thrash their way into toy, comic and music stores worldwide.

The Metallica figures were sculpted using reference from the band's 1988 And Justice For All tour, which is reflected in their hair, instruments and clothing.

Toy fans are being offered a choice of how they purchase the Metallica figures. Each band member - Lars, James, Jason and Kirk - will be offered as a regular carded figure that will include his instrument and a piece of Lars' drum kit.

We will also offer a Metallica deluxe boxed set. The box contains the same action figures as the carded option. Each includes his instrument, but the boxed version has Lars' full drum kit (with double bass) that's not available in the carded figures. The box also includes a stage with drum riser, scaffolding with working lights and a sound module.

Here's the figure breakdown:

JAMES HETFIELD
James Hetfield is 6 1/8 inches tall in his splayed-legs playing position and is articulated at the neck, shoulders, forearms and hips. He's dressed all in black (including wristbands) and is captured mid-scream. James includes his white ESP guitar.

KIRK HAMMETT
Kirk Hammett is 5 7/8 inches tall and articulated at the neck, shoulders, hips and ankles. Kirk is dressed in all black, too, and captured in the middle of one of his famous fretboard runs. Includes his Jackson guitar.

JASON NEWSTED
Jason Newsted is captured mid-headbang and is 7 inches tall to the top of his airlifted mohawk. He's jointed at the neck, shoulders, forearms and hips. Dressed in - what else? - all black (including wristbands), Jason includes his five-string Alembic electric bass.

LARS ULRICH
Lars Ulrich is 5 1/4 inches tall perched on his drum stool and is articulated at the neck, shoulders, elbows, waist and ankles. He's shirtless with a white headband and, of course, drum sticks. The boxed edition includes his full Tama drum kit (double bass with pedals, snare, two mounted toms and two floor toms) and a full complement of Zildjian cymbals.

The carded figures will be available in September, with the boxed set following in October.

In other Metallica news, we're doing a lot of promotion for the upcoming figures, including several radio station giveaways (San Francisco and Philadelphia among others). We're working with the Metallica Fan Club, MTV and Guitar Center on Metallica-related projects. And, of course, Metallibash will be happening Sept. 1 at Maritime Hall in San Francisco. We'll be giving away 10 sets of carded figures and a boxed set during the event.
