JOE QUESADA AND TODD McFARLANE'S HEROES ART(Click for a larger image.)
In a joining of forces in the face of tragedy, two different faces in the world of comic books worked together to, in some small way, help alleviate our nation's suffering after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C.
Image partner and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane and Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Joe Quesada teamed up to create a poignant piece of art specifically for Marvel's upcoming Heroes poster book. McFarlane inked Quesada's pencils on the piece. It was colored by Richard Isanove, who also colored Greg Capullo's Spawn #100 cover.
The art will be accompanied by a short poem from Kevin Smith.
"I can't exactly remember how the whole thing got started," McFarlane said. "Joe and I were on the phone and he asked me to help out with the project. I was more than happy to do my part."
Did he ever foresee the day he'd be inking Joe Quesada's pencils?
"Well, I think it's interesting for people to see the two bad boys of comics working together. This will be the only time you'll see our names together on a sheet of paper other than a court case," McFarlane said with a laugh.
Heroes is due on the shelves Oct. 17. All proceeds from the book will go to the NYPD, FDNY and the Red Cross. The original artwork will also be auctioned off to benefit those same groups.
